Body after Baby: My 9 Month Health, Fitness, & Postpartum Body Update

Head over to this link to learn more about Nokia’s brand new scales! I’m going to talk more about them in this post in addition to my postpartum health and fitness journey! Thanks for reading 🙂

Pregnancy Number 1: I gained 65 pounds.

I expected to only gain the usual 25-35 lbs (as recommended) but somehow, that did not happen. Long story short, I was extremely insecure and uncomfortable throughout the entirety of my pregnancy. The weight gain was the hardest and most emotional pregnancy transformation for me.

Pregnancy Number 2: I gained 60 pounds.

I told myself that I wasn’t even going to keep track of my weight. Of course, they do this for you at the doctor’s office. Some days, I looked at the scale. Some days, I was too busy watching E that I didn’t even notice. In the end, no matter what I ate, I still gained the same amount.

Now that I’m done with pregnancy, I’ve come to realize that my body just needed all of that weight to carry healthy babies to term. In the end, I wouldn’t change a thing and I’m thankful that my body performed in such a wonderful way.

On to the postpartum health/fitness…

First and foremost, I just want to pause and have y’all laugh at something with me. After Baby J was born, I stepped on a scale to see how much weight I had lost. I mean, obviously the 6lbs from the baby had to be gone. I assumed a lot of water weight would be gone as well… NOPE. I had actually gained 1 pound. I laughed and went back to relaxing in my hospital bed.

After Baby J was Earthside, I knew that I wanted to start taking better care of my body. So I did my 2nd round of Whole 30 in June at 4 weeks postpartum. I got a lot of flack for doing this but it wasn’t all about the weight loss. I wanted to cleanse myself as well. You can read more about my experience in this post. Overall, I lost about 20 lbs, felt a lot better and as well rested as you can in those early weeks, and Baby J was more plump than you could imagine! My milk supply was NOT affected whatsoever 🙂

Fast forward to present day…

We are officially 9 months postpartum on Friday and I’M BACK TO MY PRE-BABIES WEIGHT. (Technically my pre-Baby E weight… I weighed less before Baby J was born). While yes, I’m back down to my weight but I still have things that I want to work on for myself personally. I love working out and being physically fit. I like the way I feel when I eat more nutrient rich foods. So, my journey is truly starting NOW!

Left: 1 month postpartum, Right: 9 months postpartum

With Baby E, I lost the weight extremely fast. I was back down to my pre-pregnancy weight by 3 months postpartum. I truly don’t know how that happened. This time around, it took 9 months AND I HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY CONTENT WITH THIS JOURNEY. We as a society tend to focus too much on “bouncing back” and less on bonding, understanding your new identity, and REST in the 4th trimester. So, as far as weight loss, I’ve been taking my time and just focusing on being healthy. Don’t get me wrong, I want to be in better shape but I know that it’s not a race!

A few weeks ago, I received this new scale from Nokia. Yes, this is a sponsored post but this scale is so truly so awesome! I’ve been wanting a new fancy thing to keep track of my weight and other metrics but just not financially ready to make the leap. Like I said, this scale is fancy. Here are some of the cool features:

  • It works with an app called the Health Mate app. You can digitally keep track of all of the recordings here
  • It can track up to 8 different people and has special settings for pregnancy and babies!
  • The battery life is 18 months, so that’s nice and long-lasting!

While I know that fitness truly isn’t about the number, having this scale will help me just a little bit as I figure out my fitness goals. I love that it has the ability to keep track of steps taken and also show me how much body fat percentage that I have. Now that I’ve started working out, eating better, and focusing more on my overall wellness, I know that this scale will come in handy!

So that’s my postpartum update so far! I think I’m going to do a 1 year update just for tracking purposes… I can’t believe that it’s only 3 months away!  Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll answer them directly or in the next post 🙂

Oh and don’t forget to check out the scales for yourself here!
