If you’ve seen memes or any other funny image or article of 2017, then you’d probably think of 2017 as a TRASH BAG OF A YEAR! It definitely wasn’t the best year but personally, it wasn’t the worst. I’m going to share my 5 most viewed blog posts, my top 5 memories of the year, and my plans and intentions for myself and Aiming for August in 2018.
My Top 5 Posts of 2017
Coming in as the 5th most viewed post is my 2nd trimester favorites. This one was super easy to write and actually really requested by a couple of readers!
I love this post because I totally wish I would have read one when I was pregnant!
If you’re a long time follower, then you’ll know that I get EXTREMELY emotional about pregnancy. This post meant a lot to me because I personally waited until what I thought was the perfect time. In reality, the timing wasn’t perfect.
As a postpartum nurse and a mom who was going through the thick of it, this post was super fun to write. I hope it helped a lot of moms too!
This was definitely one of my favorite posts to write this year. Hindsight is definitely 20/20!
Top 5 memories of 2017:
5. Working on more local collaborations
This has been really exciting for me as a Houstonian. I’m really growing to love the city and become more comfortable living in it. From working with NightLight pediatrics to attending local Houston events and brunches, the collaborations have been such a great experience! I’m so excited to see where blogging takes me in 2018.
4. Leaving my job to be a stay at home mom
If you read my post about being a stay at home mom, then you’ll know that it was not necessarily my intention to pursue this venture. It was ultimately something that felt right for our family. I stopped working at about 37 weeks pregnant so I got to enjoy the final 3 weeks of pregnancy stress free. It was pretty great.
3. Becoming a Lactation Consultant
This happened recently and is still the most exciting thing ever! I’ve been working towards my IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) certification for about 2 years now so its awesome that it has finally happened. Best Christmas present ever!
I’m sure this is on every Houstonian’s list. This storm redefined a lot of things for me. Fortunately, it opened my eyes to how loved me and my family truly are. I’ve never felt more connected to people and to the city. It sucks that it had to happen this way but I’m glad that something positive came from the destruction.
Duh. This is obviously the highlight of the year. Whenever I even start to think about how much this year sucked, I think about my sweet baby boy. He has brought so much joy and happiness to our family dynamic. The word I use to describe his arrival is “Godsend”. He is our last biological baby and everything that we didn’t know we needed. Every single day, I’m learning new lessons as a mother/woman/person and my children are to thank for that!
2018 Plans/Intentions for Aiming for August
- Incorporate more health/fitness related posts:
As much as I love talking about motherhood, Im excited to start talking a little bit more about foods and fitness. I started another Instagram account to focus more on this type of stuff. You can find that account here.
- Share more of my feelings:
my authentic posts are easy to write and well received. I have a lot of feelings (obviously) so I plan to share more of those!
- Have a posting schedule/editorial calendar
Ideally my schedule is 2 posts a week (Monday and Thursday) and *SURPRISE* a vlog on Saturdays (you can subscribe to my Youtube channel here). I’m currently working on my content calendar for January and so excited about sharing fun things with you all!
2018 Plans/Intentions for Myself
- Be more intentional with my children
I feel like this is something that most moms want so I don’t feel the need to elaborate? In 2018, I really want to focus on less screen time, more creative and educational activities, outdoor play, and socialization.
- Spend less time scrolling through social media and more time creating quality content and engaging with people who motivate me
I made a lot of plans this year on being more intentional with this and fell flat. I tried earlier in the year AND right before Christmas. Ultimately, I was sucked back into it. It’s totally a default that most millennials have but I’m working to be more mindful about how I’m using my social media time. It doesn’t have to be bad or a “time suck” if you don’t let it. I recently went through and unfollowed a few accounts on Instagram that didn’t help increase my positivity or productivity. I also recently read a blog post by a fellow blogger and friend and it has so many good points on how to use social media for good. So you should check that out: here.
- Start a Lactation website
As soon as I found out that I was certified, I got to work on planning for a website 100 percent devoted to focusing on Lactation. I hope to go into private practice in the distant future and doing at home and online consultations for moms who need breastfeeding help. This website is step one!
- Go back to work
I don’t miss working but I do want to make an impact on the people that need me. I am so excited to help new moms with breastfeeding/pumping so I’ve started looking for jobs this week!
- Do a little more domestic travel
I personally don’t love traveling with my children BUT I do want to help them learn to be more adaptive and open to experiences. With that being said, I hope to go to a few more cities in Texas to “test the waters” and get out of our comfort zones.
- Do more vlogging/video tutorials
So I’ve been hoping to do more video. Mostly because I love watching videos on YouTube. Also because I have no videos of myself. When I look back on my life, I know I’ll love seeing my children and wish I had more videos of myself as well.
- Get LASIK eye surgery
One of the main reasons to get a job is to get Lasik haha. Fingers crossed that it actually happens this summer!
- Cook my way through Chrissy Teigen’s cookbook
